Air Motors (refer to fig. 3 and fig. 4)

P: How clean or dry should the inbound air be?

S: We would recommend no less than a moisture trap be installed at the regulation point closest to the air motor. If you are using an industrial or commercial air compressor, there may be excessive moisture to contend with, so an actual air line dryer with multiple moisture traps may be needed. On most systems however, a moisture trap at each regulation point will be sufficient.

P: Air motor stalls in mid stroke.

S: Inspect and clean signal valves, main valve piston assembly and pilot valve assembly; repair or replace as needed. Consult your user manual for the model of air motor used by your system and the repair kits for each assembly.

P: Air motor seems to drag while on the up or down stroke.

S: This may indicate a fluid pump problem (see pump troubleshooting). The main piston may have excessive dirt build up on either the piston seal or inside of the main cylinder. Remove the top of the air motor to access the main piston and wipe the inside of the cylinder clean with a dry cloth. WD-40 may be used to wipe the inside of the cylinder clean if needed.

P: Resin pump air motor will not cycle.

S: Inspect the pilot and signal valves for water and oil build up and clean as needed. Check alignment of signal valve on housing. Inspect hoses for contamination or build up and clean as needed.

P: What is the availability of parts for an air motor?

S: Many of the parts of the air motor are “NFI” parts, meaning they are Not From Inventory, thus requiring a special order process. This does not include the listed repair kits but due to the machining of specific parts of the air motors, repair often means replacement; for example, on the AM-500-00 air motor, part # 20106-00 main valve kit is a replacement main valve.
